I have travelled extensively in Greece over the past twenty years photographing the landscapees, seascapes, buildings and people.
During this time my attention has been drawn to the extraordinary range of colours, textures, shapes and materials which abound, and which increasingly fascinate me.
These images, individually and collectively, combine to form sensual abstract compositions, which have become central to my photographic endeavours.
These compositions are embodied largely in stone, plaster, wood and metal. The sometimes exquisite compositions are sculpted by nature and are living, dynamic fragments of reality which change with the seasons. They reflect the life, spirit and reality of those who inhabit the environment in which they are found.
It is my interest in the works of the Abstract Expressionists which has drawn me to this "project". I have seen the work of Jackson Pollok on table-tops and doorsteps. I have glimpsed Mark Rothko on the sides of ferries and fishing boats. Franz Kline has turned up on a rusting gate. Clifford Stills can be observed on flaking walls and derelict houses. I have spotted Barnett Newman on shutters and doors, and seen Aaron Sisskind virtually everywhere!
[Below are a few examples of the well over one hundred images that I have taken]
